About 4 Monos Cien Lanzas Tinaja

In ancient times, clay amphorae were the preferred vessels for the fermentation and ageing of wine, a tradition that dates back thousands of years and reflects the ingenuity of ancient civilisations. This age-old method, esteemed for its ability to preserve aromas and respect the wine's purity, has become a true treasure of the past. In recent years, clay amphorae have experienced a resurgence thanks to a new generation of winemakers who seek to reclaim the most authentic and traditional character of wine. These handcrafted pieces, made from natural materials, allow for slow and balanced micro-oxygenation, enhancing the genuine expression of grape varieties and terroir. Today, this approach not only connects with the roots of viticulture but also aligns with current trends towards sustainable and minimalist production, restoring the wine to its purest and most natural essence.

One of the projects that has embraced this vinification technique is 4 Monos. It is one of the promising wineries emerging in the Sierra de Gredos, Madrid (Spain), founded by four friends who have recognised the full potential of this small mountainous area with its granite soils and ancient vineyards. One of their top wines, 4 Monos Cien Lanzas Tinaja, is a blend of the varieties garnacha tinta, cariñena, and garnacha blanca sourced from four different top parcels in the Sierra de Gredos. Vines nearly 100 years old are planted on granite soil at an altitude of 830-960 metres. Respectful agriculture is practised, and the harvest is done manually at the optimal moment of ripeness. In the winery, fermentation is spontaneous with 62 days of maceration, followed by the wine resting for 9 months. Finally, it is bottled unfiltered and with minimal sulphur.

4 Monos Cien Lanzas Tinaja connects with the most authentic essence of traditional viticulture. An oenological gem that brings the legacy of clay amphorae to the present, offering a unique sensory experience for those seeking wines with personality and soul.
