Tasting notes Dominio D´Echauz Tinto 2023
Red wine Aged in wood. 7 meses en barricas de roble.
Dominio D'Echauz Tinto 2023 exhibits a strikingly brilliant and deep cherry hue. When brought to the nose, it unveils an enticing blend of black fruits such as blueberries and blackberries, alongside red fruits like raspberries, all delicately enveloped in subtle toasted nuances. On the palate, this wine impresses with its volume and pronounced tannins, offering a silky texture and a pleasing length. The fruit stands out with freshness, thanks to its well-balanced acidity. This 2023 vintage is distinguished by its harmony and concentration, ideal for those seeking a wine with structure and vivacity in every sip.

About Dominio D´Echauz Tinto
For years, if Soria was the great overlooked region within Ribera del Duero, today the narrative has shifted. What once seemed like a disadvantage — altitude, extreme climate, borderline ripening — has now become its greatest allure. In an era of global warming, those nearly 1,000 metres of elevation no longer intimidate; they captivate.
And if anyone foresaw this change, it was Rafa García. Leading Vitis Navarra, the historic nursery established in 1906 by the García-Baigorri family, he has been working with vines from their origin for decades. We are not talking about small-scale operations. Approximately five million plants are produced annually from their facilities. But that’s not all; over 25 years ago, he decided to take it a step further. He not only wanted to study the vine but also to interpret it in the glass.
This is how Dominio d’Echauz was born. Situated in an extreme enclave of the Soria sector of Ribera del Duero, the domain spans almost 800 hectares, with 130 dedicated to vineyards spread across Izaldea, Las Vilaneras, and Val d’Echauz. Poor soils, a demanding climate, and an altitude of around 1,000 metres necessitate precision in every decision. Here, viticulture is not an option; it is precision.
Dominio d’Echauz Tinto is a prime example. It is crafted from a blend of eight ancestral biotypes, many originating from historic pre-phylloxera vineyards that are still preserved and cultivated on the estate. The blend includes varieties such as cabernet sauvignon, garnacha, and tempranillo, which are processed separately to honour their identity. The ageing — between 10 and 12 months in wood and concrete — seeks balance rather than prominence, allowing the fruit and origin to speak.
The result? Dominio d’Echauz Tinto, a wine with depth, yet also with freshness. Complex without being heavy. With the sense that there is something more than just technique behind it. There is history.
