About Fontodi Filetta di Lamole Chianti Classico

The production of terracotta in Tuscany (Italy) has its origins in the Etruscan and Roman periods, when this material was esteemed both for its durability in construction and its ability to shape artworks of great beauty. The Manetti family, with a tradition spanning centuries, has dedicated itself to this noble craft in the Panzano area, becoming a benchmark in terracotta craftsmanship. Thus, when in 1968 they decided to produce their own wines, the Manetti family further strengthened their bond with the land. With an estate of 170 hectares, over 80 of which are planted with vineyards, they have established themselves as true specialists in the sangiovese variety. Under the name Fontodi, derived from the ancient Lombard phrase “fontana d'oro” meaning “place rich in water,” the winery produces wines that capture the essence of the Tuscan terroir. These wines have gained recognition both nationally and internationally, reflecting the family's passion and commitment to quality and sustainability.

A prime example of this work is Fontodi Filetta di Lamole Chianti Classico, a red wine made from sangiovese grapes whose vines, originating from the vineyard of the same name at 600 metres above sea level, are managed using biodynamic methods to maximise grape quality and preserve the terroir's flavour. The harvest is done by hand, with careful selection to use only the finest specimens. In the winery, fermentation takes place in steel tanks at controlled temperatures with skin maceration. Finally, the wine matures for 24 months in large French oak barrels.

This meticulous approach to production is reflected in the character of Fontodi Filetta di Lamole Chianti Classico, a fresh and structured wine that not only embodies the winemaking tradition of the region but also stands out for the depth and complexity of a genuine Chianti Classico.

Fontodi Filetta di Lamole Chianti Classico 2020 reveals an intense ruby red hue with bright highlights. Its bouquet captivates with aromas of ripe cherry, plum, violet petals, and liquorice root, enhanced by spicy notes and hints of blond tobacco and leather. On the palate, it displays a pleasing freshness and a well-balanced structure, with smooth tannins and harmonious acidity that culminate in a long and persistent finish.
