About Ganevat Victor de la Combe

Not just anyone can be a leader. Being a leader means demonstrating qualities and achievements that inspire others and guide them towards success or personal development. So when it comes to the leading authority on natural winemaking for a whole generation of young winemakers, Jean-François Ganevat is the master. A French winemaker known for his work in the production of natural and biodynamic wines in the Jura region of eastern France, he took over the family estate in 1998 and, thanks to his unconventional practices, his wines have become an authentic expression of the terroir in a non-interventionist style featuring traditional methods and the minimal addition of sulfites.

One of his wines, Ganevat Victor de la Combe, is a cuvée made from the chardonnay variety. It stems from old vines planted on limestone marl slopes with very shallow soils in the Mâcon region. The team implements ecological agriculture with biodynamic practices and very low yields. In the winery, the wine is directly pressed and fermented with naturally occurring yeasts. The wine is then left to age on its lees in large barrels for more than 24 months. Lastly, it is bottled without filtering, clarification or the addition of sulfur dioxide.

As winemakers of the fourteenth generation, Jean-François and his sister Anne have become absolute leaders in the natural wine community and have earned international recognition for the quality and uniqueness of their wines. Ganevat Victor de la Combe is proof of this. A crisp, buttery and mineral natural chardonnay.
