About Gil Pejenaute Tabuca
On more than one occasion the Aragonese winemaker Javier Gil Pejenaute has confessed that his wines are “more focused towards export”, enjoying great success in foreign markets like the United States, Luxembourg, Switzerland and even Asia.
These marvellous wines, including Pejenaute Tabuca, bear the seal of the D.O. Campo de Borja and represent a dream. After 25 years working in La Rioja, Javier Gil Pejenaute returned to Tabuenca, the village in the high area of this denomination (in the east of Aragón), the place where he has decided to make his dream come true. In this land, the undisputed domain of the Grenache, Javier Gil Pejenaute has brought the old vineyards back to life, willing to give a new lease of life to these small plots aged over 35 years old and planted between 700 and 750 metres above sea level. These vines are the hallmark of this denomination, where the focus is on low but extraordinary quality yields. This important feature must be taken care of above everything else, championing organic cultivation that looks after the environment, working manually and avoiding chemicals. Javier Gil Pejenaute is also made in very limited quantities, making sure production has the least possible impact.
His four hectares of vineyards are home to these grapes that are harvested to put the soul into Gil Pejenaute Tabuca. This wine, which was originally released as Tabuenca, is fermented in oak barrels using native yeasts. Neither filtered nor clarified, Gil Pejenaute Tabuca is bottled after one year of aging, resulting in a fine and elegant wine, born from the area’s clay-ferrous and sandy soils.
| 2021 | Gil Pejenaute Tabuca 2021 is a smooth red wine with aromas of red and black fruit accompanied by violet flowers and herbal hints. On the palate it is light, fresh and pleasant. An easy-drinking wine with marked acidity and a fruity finish. |
|
| 2020 | Gil Pejenaute Tabuca 2020 is a juicy, ripe cherry-coloured red. On the nose, wild fruit aromas combine with hints of botanicals. The palate is intense, deep and vibrant, with lots of varietal flavours (red fruits). Its acidity stands out. Long and very flavoursome finish. |
