About Lammidia Anfora

“We had barrels, but we turned them into small tables... their influence was too strong! We shall try again later!” declare Davide and Marco, in their relentless quest to honour the purity of the terroir, thus choosing a less conventional path: vinification in amphorae. Thus, Lammidia Anfora is born, a red wine that encapsulates the essence of nature with every sip, devoid of artifice or constraints.
 
This family-run winery, nestled in the Abruzzo (Italy), derives its name from “la 'mmidia,” an ancient term in the local dialect meaning envy or the evil eye. To counteract it, the wise women of the family perform an ancestral ritual with water, oil, and words steeped in tradition, an act that, according to Davide and Marco, was crucial for the inaugural fermentation of their wines to commence with unstoppable vigour. Since then, this rite safeguards each harvest, bestowing a mystical aura upon their craft.
 
Lammidia Anfora is a natural red wine crafted from hand-destemmed Montepulciano grapes, which undergo a slow fermentation over a week in terracotta Qvevri amphorae. Here, there is no room for sulphites or additives: only pure grapes, spontaneous fermentation, and an unwavering respect for the land. The result is a wine with delicate notes of dates, rosehip, and macerated black cherries, caressing the palate with its silky texture and vibrant freshness.
